Italian Citizenship: The Mission and Ethics of Emigrantix

Italian Citizenship: A Value, Not a Commodity

Italian identity is a heritage. Obtaining jure sanguinis citizenship is not just a bureaucratic procedure: it is the recognition of a bond that spans generations. Anyone embarking on this journey must be aware that citizenship brings with it invaluable rights, but also binding duties.

1. The Advantages of a Global Passport

Possessing Italian citizenship means entering a dimension of unparalleled freedom and opportunity:

2. A Change of Pace: Why the Law Has Become Stricter

Many wonder why, since March 2025, the State has introduced stricter limitations (D.L. 36/2025). The answer is simple: citizenship cannot be a "plan B" of convenience. For too long, we have witnessed the instrumentalization of blood ties. Too many applicants have rediscovered their "Italianness" only to obtain a passport, ignoring the suffering history of their ancestors — often fleeing from Italy due to poverty or war — and without ever having cultivated any real bond with the country. The new legislation aims to protect Italian identity from those who only seek shortcuts, rewarding those who demonstrate a genuine will to belong.

3. The Dark Side: When the Dream Becomes a Crime

The fragility of the past system opened the way to dangerous infiltrations. Corruption cases involving public officials have allowed individuals without requirements — in some cases linked to criminal or terrorist organizations — to obtain false documents. This is not just an administrative offense; it is a threat to international security.

The consequences are devastating:

The need for stricter protection is not theoretical, but stems from news reports that have shaken public opinion. Investigations launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) since April 2024, involving consular offices in Porto Alegre and Caracas, have brought deeply flawed systems to light.

However, it is important to analyze reality objectively: the serious irregularities that emerged were not always attributable solely to criminal intent. In many cases, the system collapsed under the weight of negligent conduct, characterized by incompetence, gross negligence, and bureaucratic haste dictated by an inability to manage the enormous volume of citizenship applications, perhaps while trying to accommodate that segment of the population of Italian origin that was (or is) living in conditions of severe economic or humanitarian crisis.

This created a dangerous "gray area":

Episodes like these marked a point of no return, demonstrating how Italian identity has too often been devalued to the detriment of national security. The State therefore had to respond with the necessary, albeit rigid, measures contained in D.L. 36/2025, to put an end to an era of uncertainty and restore the legal and moral value of being Italian citizens.
